“This humorous tale about alien shenanigans should inspire serious giggles. Davis’ geometric cartoon art, with its bright colors, adds to the fun comic-book feel, and end pages help young artists create their own oval characters.“

“Gage debuts with an educational delight, filled with vibrant illustrations that pop with color and playful shapes. Light and somewhat lilting prose moves readers quickly through the tale’s simple plot. Educational concepts appropriate to children in the higher range of picture book years are peppered throughout, while scientific and astronomical references… play nicely alongside the narrative’s emphasis on geometry.”

For future astronauts!

“Super fun book, even for us grown ups. Such a fun book and incredible illustrations! I read the story to my husband as soon as we opened it. He listened the entire time. We both chuckled along the way! My girls (9 and 11) adored it and took turns reading it to each other. They can’t wait to be able to go back to school and share with friends and teachers.

My oldest was inspired by the illustrations and so excited when I explained the illustrator was a teenager. She has aspirations of being an artist. The fun read! I can’t wait for the next book… I’m sure I’ll read it before my kids!”

“…a story that subtly includes information on shapes and the solar system. Kids love superheroes and Oval Man and his dog Ovaltina are fun ones.”

“Awesome book for elementary students This book is not only a story, but a great teaching tool for students to use their imagination in creating their own “oval man”. Art teachers always are looking for a way to teach proportion and human anatomy to students. This starts at the beginning and allows students to have success using simple shapes. Home school teachers take note! You can teach students to read and draw with one book! This would be so much fun to use in the classroom. Buy one for your child’s teacher as well as one for yourself.”

“A great addition to your child’s library. I bought this book for my daughter, a kindergarten teacher. She and her students love this entertaining, fun book. The author is a born storyteller and the illustrations artfully support the story while teaching young children the first steps of drawing.”

“Clever, funny and richly illustrated. I fell right into the world created by this charming book for 2nd and 3rd graders, and loved the detailed illustrations, easy to draw figures and funny story. But the real charmer for me was the space travel and the illustrations of stars and planets How fun to have a children’s book that imagines what it would be like to travel through space and sneaks in some math and art concepts along the way–guard your pizza slices people!”

“2nd-5th grade level but great for all ages! Science, technology, engineering, ART, and math (STEAM). Homeschoolers will love this as it incorporates these topics and teaches how to draw. The illustrations are done by a teenager and easy to draw. I highly recommend this book!”

My kids were inspired by the teen-age illustrator.

“For future astronauts! This is an amazing book and a first block to inspire all children who dream of being astronauts! What I love about Oval Man is the sneaky way geometric shapes are introduced and serves to inspire the learning of mathematics! The mystical love of space and math is what has made virtually all astronauts! I can hardly wait to give a copy to all of my grandchildren.”

“Fun to read to kids plus a drawing lesson. I love this book! A superhero story where the superhero is not at all violent. He apologizes when he crashes the villain into a wall. And it ends with a lesson on how to draw the characters. On the back of the book it says it was written by a storyteller. Maybe that is why it is a delight to read aloud. And it is just the right length for a bedtime story.”

“Inspiring and Fun. Part story, part useful drawing guide, this witty, brilliantly illustrated little book is the perfect spark for budding young (and old) artists. My kids loved the story, the funny characters, and were inspired by the teen-age illustrator. Outstanding!”
