The Illustrator

Anya Louise Davis was adopted from Moscow Russia at the age of 9 months by her mother Mary and father Richard. From the first time she was given bathtub crayons as a toddler, Anya has been a passionate and dedicated artist.

Anya’s art has been displayed in numerous art shows, including Western Carolina University’s Masterpeace Magazine and The Arts Council of Henderson County Students and Mentors Art Show.

Anya is a high school senior who enjoys playing the trumpet in band and learning about science. Anya volunteers by teaching at art camp and helping in her church’s Sunday school classes. She is a dedicated Carolina Hurricanes hockey fan. Anya lives in North Carolina with her mom and step-dad. She plans to become an art therapist, art teacher, or volcanologist. Maybe, all three.

Anya illustrates Oval Man. Don’t be fooled by the age of the artist and the simplicity of her character and vehicular renderings. They are intentionally straightforward so children (and maybe some adults!) will be encouraged to draw them. Her double-page layouts of the Solar System are lush, vibrant, and intricate. The book also serves as a step-by-step “I Can Draw” tutorial for children using nothing but ovals.
